To be eligible for the Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 494) – Employer Sponsored stream, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Be under 45 years of age when you apply for the visa, unless exempt
  • Be nominated by an employer whose business is lawfully operating in Australia
  • Have relevant skills, qualifications and work experience
  • Undertake a skills assessment to demonstrate your suitability for the nominated occupation
  • Have at least Competent English language proficiency
  • Meet the health and character requirements
  • Not have had a visa cancelled or a previous application refused
  • Have paid back any debt owed to the Australian government
  • Sign the Australian values statement

Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 494) - Employer Sponsored stream Application Process

To apply for the Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 494) – Employer Sponsored stream, your employer will need to lodge a nomination application for you. They must be an approved work sponsor or have at least lodged an application to become a standard business sponsor. You must demonstrate that you have the skills, qualifications and work experience necessary to perform the nominated occupation and undertake a skills assessment. You must provide evidence of your English language proficiency, meet the health and character requirements, and not have had a visa cancelled or a previous application refused. Once granted, the visa holder can work and live in a designated regional area of Australia for up to 5 years.
